Rick’s legal search and placement practice is focused on representing partners, practice groups, and other highly qualified lawyers seeking outstanding lateral opportunities. As one of California’s top partner recruiters, Am Law 100 and Am Law 200 firms frequently engage Rick to conduct confidential partner and practice group searches. He also represents law firms in merger and acquisition transactions as well as branch office acquisitions.
Drawing on his prior experience as a general counsel, Rick and his team regularly conduct general counsel and in house counsel searches for leading corporations. His corporate clients span a wide range of industries and include Fortune 500 companies, public and private corporations, investment management firms, hedge funds, private equity firms, entertainment companies, and non-profit organizations.
Before he founded The Portfolio Group in 1995, Rick practiced law at O'Melveny & Myers and served as general counsel of one of the largest private companies in California. Rick received a BA, summa cum laude, from Clark University, an MA in history from Columbia University, and a JD, cum laude, from The University of Michigan Law School. The Daily Journal (California's leading legal publication) reported that, with 15 years experience as a practicing lawyer, "Kolodny is able to understand the law firm environment from a high-level professional's point of view" and has "an unsurpassed level of contacts in the legal community."
